The Thiba palace is one of the major attractions in Ratnagiri city. This historical palace was built in 1910-11 by the British to put the King Thibaw under house arrest.
The King Thibaw was the last king of Burma which is now as Myanmar. King Thibaw ruled the Burma for 6 years. British took over the Burma kingdom and arrested king Thibaw. British brought the King Thibaw from Bramahadesh and shifted him in Ratnagiri to keep him far away from his kingdom. They incarcerated him in this palace.
The area of this palace is about 25803 Sq. Meter. The palace is a beautifully constructed three storied structure with sloping roofs. Semi-circular wooden windows with beautiful curving are the main attraction of this structure. One Buddha idol is installed at the back side of the palace. This idol was brought to India by king Thibaw.
It has historical value because King of Burma ‘Thibaw’ spent many years of his life here.
